It is not what you think, but what you actually do that can change lives.

D-Day!

I was up early this morning, wondering what I have forgotten, ah my ambulance.. I had to go to Anders’s new workshop to pick up the Chevrolet that I am going to drive. It has got a very big engine and a very long hood. I can hardly see above the steering wheel, this is going to be very interesting.

We are all going to meet up in Malmö around 6 ish to sort the last things, I will continue to write from there..

To drive the ambulance

For some odd reason I woke up an hour to early but I did not realize it until I got to Ask, where I apologized that I was late, when I actually was there an hour earlier than usual. Hm.. I got a lot on my mind right now. The best part of today is that I drove one of the ambulances to Tuwa Special transport, to Anders Wahlen, he is also a driver in the project, and he is also helping us out with some service of the cars.  Back to my 50km drive, to be truly sincere; it is very easy to be impressed by the horsepower and the sound of the engine when one are driving in a high speed on the high way. I am looking forward to autobahn.  But not to be forgotten is that it is a wee bit tricky to drive an ambulance, the weight is about 2500kilo, and the length is the same as a limousine.  Anyway, tomorrow, the last pieces should fall into place and we will have a few days off.

From Sweden to Algeria in an Ambulance

Terezia with an AmbulanceMy name is Terezia Bock and I have a BA degree in Peace and Conflict science, and my main interest are refugee and aid issues. Right now I am involved in a project called “Sahara Convoy” that is ran by the aid organization “Emmaus Fredriksdal” where I am working in project management. Our plan is the first of May 2011 drive eight fully equipped ambulances from Ask in Skåne, Sweden, to the refugee camps in Western Sahara, Algeria. The ambulances are a gift from Emmaus to the Saharawi Red Crescent.
We will begin our journey of Ask in south of Sweden,  we drive to Trier in Germany and further on to Pau in the south France and Alicante on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. In Alicante, we take a car ferry to Oran in Algeria. From there, we have a 1470 km long drive through the Sahara desert before we reach our goal, the refugee camps that are located in Tindouf in western Algeria, on the border to Western Sahara. I will be blogging throughout the trip and hope for a few minutes internet access each day.
My blog is directed in particular to highlight the situation of Western Sahara, which in Europe is an unrecognized conflict between Western Sahara and Morocco, the occupying power.
Feel free to comment, ask questions and have opinions and help us to make the Western Sahara situation visible to the public.
